Main Production Steps of OBD Connector

1. Injection molding: ordinary injection molding and embedded molding.

(1) Ordinary injection molding: plastic shell of OBD connector usually adopts this method, and the process is simple;

(2) Embedded injection molding refers to injection molding when embedded with terminals and other parts. Such as screws, nuts, hardware inserts, wires, etc.;

2. Stamping: it is main forming method of metal parts. The main metal parts used in male OBD connector are pins. While the metal parts used in female OBD connector are contact terminals.

3. Electroplating: It mainly refers to post-treatment on surface of metal parts of OBD connector. Plating methods are different for different metal contacts. Usually there are chain belt plating, barrel plating, hanging plating and brush plating.

(1) Chain belt plating is suitable for chain belt terminals. It is the most common plating method and the plating is uniform and with stable quality;

(2) Barrel plating is for bulk metal parts. The plating is uneven and easy to damage parts;

(3) Hanging plating is suitable for bulk metal parts. The plating is uniform but it is time consuming and with high cost.

(4) Brush plating is suitable for partial plating on spot or surface.

4. Assembly: assemble separate parts into to OBD connector. After assembly, the obd2 connector will be suitable for installation, plug, unplug, replacement etc.. There are several process to assemble the obd connector.

(1) Connect shell with CPA (connector position assurance) and TPA (terminal position assurance).

(2) Seal the housing (plastic shell).

(3) Assembly plastic parts with metal parts: assemble the plastic shell and contact terminal into integrated obd connector. This step mainly relies on assembly fixture and automatic equipment.

After these production steps, a complete obd connector will come out.
