As we know, our OBD diagnostic tool is able to check VIN. So, what is VIN and why user need to check VIN code?

Vin is the abbreviation of vehicle identification number. It is stipulated by ASE standard. It's the "ID card" of vehicle. Each VIN is unique and it represents only one vehicle. The VIN code consists of 17 characters. It includes the manufacturer, year, model, body type and code, engine code and assembly location of the vehicle.

①    1-3 digits of VIN are WMI codes. It is the identification code of automobile manufacturer. Which can tell you origin of the automobile, and which manufacturer produces it;

②     4 ~ 9 digits are VDS codes. It is the description part of the vehicle. After digital decoding, you can know a series of information about the vehicle. Including specifications and configuration details of the body, engine and components;

③     10 ~ 17 digits are VIS codes. They are indication part of the vehicle. They represents the vehicle production time, assembly plant, production sequence number, etc.

What's the use of VIN? For used or modified cars, due to long service life or wear and tear, the VIN may be not clear. Or even missed. What's more, some illegal auto traders use fake VIN for some purposes. Therefore, it is necessary to use automotive diagnostic tool to check Vin. It can not only save the trouble of seeking, but also avoid false Vin.
