How to Read Fault Code with OBD2 Scan Tool?

If the check engine light of vehicle is always on. Then the car may have serious problems. At this case, we need to use OBD2 scan tool to check the fault code.

The OBD2 scan tool we mentioned here refers to the mini version with Bluetooth. First we need to plug OBD2 scan tool into the vehicle's OBD diagnostic interface (DLC). After inserting OBD2 scan tool into OBD-II socket, we may need to do some settings according to different app. For example, enter the setting interface of the mobile phone and turn on Bluetooth. Then enter the app setting interface and select Bluetooth connection. Then search for Bluetooth devices in mobile phone. Pair OBDii scan tool with mobile phone. After pairing, it may be necessary to select vehicle model or test system. In some App, there no need to select models and test systems.

It is necessary to follow certain steps to read fault code with OBD2 scan tool. The correct steps are: read fault code → eliminate fault code → read fault code again. The fault code read for the first time is not necessarily the cause of the vehicle fault. For example, if the harness plug of some sensors is loose, a fault code will appear in the system. After reconnecting the plug, although the fault disappeared, but the fault code is still existent. This kind of fault code has no value for current diagnosis. The fault code read for the second time is what we need.

Some fault codes are related to the running state of the vehicle. Some are for dynamic, some are for static. Therefore, if the engine is not started, the diagnostic results may not be accurate. Usually, we need to start the engine first, and then use OBD2 scan tool to test.
